Attendance call on the first day back at school in Tower Hamlets....London. The teacher began calling out the names of the pupils from the school register:
"Mustafa Al Eih Zeri?" "Here."
"Achmed El Kabul?" "Here."
"Fatima Al Hayek? " "Here."
"Ali Abdul Olmi?" "Here."
"Mohammed Bin Kadir?" "Here."
"Ali Son al Len” There was no reply. The teacher repeated the name:
"Ali Son al Len" Still no response from the class, and puzzled looks from the pupils as they all looked around the classroom. Again, the teacher repeated the name from her register.
"Ali son al Len.....is that the name of any child here??
Eventually, a small child at the back stood up and said, "I think that might be me, Miss. It's pronounced Alison Allen"
