We rarely go to the cinema these days, basically because there are so few features that interest us, but this week we went to our local multiscreen complex to see Tom Hanks in "Captain Philips". It's a good movie, and reinforces the view that Hanks can play any roll in a totally convincing manner. He is a consummate actor on the silver screen. But the reason I mention this is that our enjoyment of the picture was ruined by the sound levels the film was shown at. It wasn't just loud...it was set at rock concert......ear tingling levels.
Now I'm as tolerant as the next man and I know that modern films have to attract a wide audience. But this was beyond reasonable! Why DO the cinema chains do this? They have lost our custom for the foreseeable future, and it will take a very good movie to tempt us back!

Agree, cinema is always too loud these days and sometimes you can't even understand what the actors are mumbling about. Best to get a nice big TV and watch the film on DVD ... you don't have to wait too long for a film be released on DVD.

I was in the USA a few months ago and I went to watch ,'Pacific Rim', on a wide screen ,'surround sound', picture house, the seats positively shook from the noise !! I will be downloading it soon to watch in peace and quiet at a volume that's OK for me.
