'Thought some of you would like to see this. This is the time that these lovely Flamboyant trees flower every year on the island where I live most of the year.

Don't think so prashna. Coming from the Lake District I know the rhododendron varieties quite well. There are lots of them in Lakeland. I know this tree from Oman. There is (or was) avenue of these trees leading up to the Intercontinental Hotel in Muscat, Oman. They flowered in April/May every year. The tree is known as the Royal Poinciana, Gulmohar or Flamboyant Tree. They come in varieties from flame red through to orange and yellow. The leaves of the tree are fern like. When I first saw this tree in Muscat I thought there were Flame Trees, but a Kenyan friend of mine told me that they were not the Peltophorum africanum Flame Tree of Africa, but the Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant Tree. I believe that this same tree flowers in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in April/June. I stand corrected on any of the above as this is only information gained from my reading and what horticultural friends have told me.

. They flowered in April/May every year. The tree is known as the Royal Poinciana, Gulmohar or Flamboyant Tree. Ah! Genus: Delonix.Species: Delonix Regia.I should have known. My apologies. This page shows that it grows well in my native town, Kolkata also. Known as Gul Mohar there. I have actually seen this tree in the gardens of the Taj Mahal, in Agra; but NOT in flower. Shows how long I have been out of India. Of course, it only flowers in April-May, when I never visit India, because of the heat. I only go in December-January and even then I feel the heat- sometimes. Details and pictures here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delonix_regiaNice one. Thanks, Lagenda. Prashna
