I do a bit of downloading now and again and I have a collection of films that suit me. My Daughter and her husband have so much stuff that they make my collection look puny but she tells me what's good and what not to bother with.
Some recent films.:-
The new Dune Films, (could have been much better !) House of flying daggers ( Martial arts - better than you would think) Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (very good, see what some people do to the pervert who killed their children) The Hunger ( Red hot lesbo scenes not to be missed) Drag me to Hell ( you need a strong stomach) The Men who stare at goats ( quite good)

I want to see "I love Philip Morris" which is described as a cross between Catch Me If You Can (good film) and Brokeback Mountain (which I haven't seen and I'm guessing that neither of you have either?), only better. A homosexual romance story crossed with a crime caper, with Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as the couple. At a good cinema near you! And I've just watched "The Last Emperor", what a wonderful film! - I know, I know, everyone said this over a decade ago and that's why it won the Oscars etc but I'm a slow watcher.

I read the short story, Brokeback Mountain and it was written by a Woman !!. I have absolutely no experience with male homosexuals so cannot make an informed judgement but there are parts of the book that are just plain unrealistic. I don't know if these unrealistic bits got transferred into the film though.

I have just seen a movie that I wish I had missed. Its title is The Boy in the striped pyjamas. It is a heart wrenching film about a German concentration camp for Jews. The young son of the commandant becomes friendly with one of the young Jewish boys on the other side of the barbed wire. His parents don’t know about it. The boy’s mother is not aware that they are gassing and burning Jews not far from the bottom of her garden. When she finds out she is horrified. One day while his father and mother are out, Bruno climbs through the window of the hut at the bottom of the garden to take the Jewish boy something to eat. The Jewish boy told him previously that his father has gone missing these last two days. Bruno says that if he gets him some pyjamas like his he will put them on, climb under the fence and help him to look for his father. I won’t tell you anymore but the ending is horrendous. Have a box of tissues handy.

Tobes, it's a bit of mad premise, suspension of belief is required...60 or so years into the future, the sun is dimming/dying, a crew are sent on a mission to drop some kind of super-bomb in there to kickstart it. The film isn't really about *that* though, it's pretty human and some of the effects are simply stunning. I watched it on standard DVD, but I've ordered it on Blu-Ray so I can watch it in hi def, it really is a great looking film with some solid acting from Cillian Murphy and the lovely Rose Byrne. If you've ever seen "2001" and "Event Horizon" it's sort of like a mix of them (no aliens, laser guns or space battles). AH
