I thought I might put up my amateurish thoughts (read: twaddle ) about a book I got for Yule that I just finished reading
Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne
This won't interest everybody as it is effectively another apocalyptic zombie theme. It is centred around a soldier who decided to sod the recall to base and survive instead. He picks up a bunch of civilians that he helps (and they in turn help him). It isn't finished, there is a sequel on the way but I do not know when
Okay, that is the story synopsis, now for my thoughts :-)
The character variation was okay, but I did think it jolly handy that 3 of the civilians he picked up where a chemist, doctor and an engineer. Somewhat contrived, it would have been better I think if the group lacked some of those
The last part of the story, where some bad Texan types wanted to snuff them was finished too quickly. I got the impression he was going "Oh no, I must finish the book for the deadline. I know what, I'll blow the friggers up"
There was one contradiction in it that stood out to me. There was one zombie who had enough residual memory to punch in a key code to a door. So how come no zombie anywhere could even open a normal door handle unless they fell on it by accident? That made no sense to me
I did like, however, when they came across zombies with somewhat different abilities. Explanations for some things that happened have been left unanswered simply because the main character does not KNOW what happened. I quite like this, as it keeps the story revolving around him
It was okay, but I do hope that the sequel proves to be better
