Its the mango season here where I am in Malaysia and most of my friends have mango trees in their gardens. I am getting overwhelmed with their generosity and my kitchen is getting snowed under with mangoes. So, yesterday I decided to make mango pickle and mango chutney and give most of it back to the original mango donors. I have got a pan of mango chutney simmering away as I write and the smell is making my mouth water. Delia says that once you have made mango chutney you should put it in a cupboard and forget about if for eight weeks to let it mature. 'Most I can manage is a month and even then it tastes delicious. Great with curries. Back to the stove for another stir.

My Dad used to work in management at Air France - at one point was based at Heathrow in Cargo. We used to get loads of stuff that - rather suavely, one could say had "Fallen off the back of an Aeroplane!" ;D I've still got a clock radio that fell off one - still going after twenty-five years! We used to get quite a few mangoes too - and Dad would make this yummy ice cream out of them - we didn't have any gadgets to do it with, it was a sort of sorbet - icecream mix as a result - bright orange in colour - lovely stuff!
Oddest thing that came off the planes was Two giant snails - bred for eating and brought in for the posher London hotels - but the crate burst "In Transit" - and apparently they were all over the warehouse by the end of the day! Ours we called Bernard and Daphne!

All the mangoes have been processed now. They have been made into chutney, pickle or cakes and well received by those who kindly donated them.
