I fear it will get a lot worse You mean, PeterL even before Iran has a fully operational Nuclear arsenal, with delivery vehicles or personnel to match. These days all it would take is a determined Muslim Mass Murderer, ( suicide bomber) and a suitably small dirty nuclear device in a large suitcase. We live in troubled times. Regards. Prashna

Iran has banned foreign journalists from taking pictures, but we have had news reports that their police are going to students' flats just to beat them up, and are whacking anybody, whether or not they are involved in the riots

Another life tragically lost. Son's Death Has Iranian Family Asking WhyExcerpt: Upon learning of his son's death, the elder Mr. Alipour was told the family had to pay an equivalent of $3,000 as a "bullet fee"—a fee for the bullet used by security forces—before taking the body back, relatives said.
Mr. Alipour told officials that his entire possessions wouldn't amount to $3,000, arguing they should waive the fee because he is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war. According to relatives, morgue officials finally agreed, but demanded that the family do no funeral or burial in Tehran. Kaveh Alipour's body was quietly transported to the city of Rasht, where there is family.Pathetic Regards nirakara

an iranian friend of ours was over visiting his mother when the elections were on says there was a black out of news..phones were blocked etc he[dual passport holder] and other were waiting for new passports and suddenly new passports were available and they couldnt wait to get the them out of the country also the results were published before the full vote was counted..in a country that size it would be impossible to have such a quick result published there is no anti west feelings amoung the population as a whole...the whole regime is vicious..corrupt and will use any methods to quell the surge for more freedoms.. whether the people will rise and over throw is doubtful at this moment in time but change will come to iran sooner or later..its been on the cards for ages

Hi all, Ahmedinejad or Mousavi; Ayatollah/clerics will continue to rule with an iron fist, says this insightful article. Please see: Can Iran's Reformers Exploit Fissures in the Regime? Are the current protests just venting of anger against fraudulent elections or is there is an underlying sentiment against the theocratic monolithic Islamic regime? Do these protests have enough steam to overthrow the brutal regime installed by Ayatollah Rohullah Khomeni? Regards nirakara

Hi all, Ahmedinejad or Mousavi; Ayatollah/clerics will continue to rule with an iron fist, says this insightful article. Please see: Can Iran's Reformers Exploit Fissures in the Regime? Do these protests have enough steam to overthrow the brutal regime installed by Ayatollah Rohullah Khomeni? Regards nirakara Thank you, Nirakara for that citation. I have studied the article with care, and I concur with your statement that it is indeed an "insightful article." Have a karma. Unfortunately I have seen it all before, in my own lifetime. In 1969, the brutal regime of General Yahya Khan, launched an all-out attack on what was then the East Pakistan. Sheik Mujibur Rahman, a liberal Bengali Muslim, much respected just like Moussavi had been campaigning for independence from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which had oppressed Bengali race for over 20 years. within the Islam. He had gone to Pakistan hoping to negotiate some form of self-government. Yahya Khan simply jailed him and launched an all-out sea-borne attack to quell the seeds of unrest. What followed is one of the most shameful act of genocide of the 20th century. 3M were killed, over 10M made homeless, most of them Hindus who fled to India in terror and desperation. That is the best-kept secret horror of the 20th c, mainly because Pakistan, backed by its powerful SEATO ally, the USA blocked all attempts by India to raise it in the UN. Only now it has been recorded in the Guiness Book of Records 2007, as the 5th worst act of Genocide of the 20th c. And shamefully, not through any act of India or the Hindu victims of the genocide, but through the lifelong efforts of a Bengali Muslim.
Then, India had to step in militarily, simply to stop the intolerable pressure of refugees building up outside Howrah station (which I know well) and on the streets of Calcutta (my former home town). The Pakistani Army, was no match for the Indian Army. The Indian Army withdrew once the threat was repulsed, free Bangladesh was established and Mujib Rahman freed eventually after repugnant negotiations between India and Pakistan. If anyone is interested, I can explain why it was so repugnant. Mujib set up a secular state of Bangladesh. He was murdered by Islamists, who made Islam the official religion, making it effectively an Islamic country. They started their own persecution of the remaining Hindus, who were the original natives of the land. The tragic story of their persecution has been well documented in the booklet 'Lajja' by Taslima Nasreen, a Bengali Muslim female newly-qualified Doctor. The book was banned in Bangladesh and remains banned there and in large parts of India till today. There is an English translation in Amazon and elsewhere. Taslima had to leave her own country as a result after numerous death threats following an Islamic fatwa against her. The tragic thing is that Taslima is not safe even in the only other place where Bengali is spoken, West Bengal within the SUPPOSEDLY SECULAR INDIA.Muslims in Calcutta threatened to kill her and the Indian Government advised her to leave. Usual pathetic appeasement, usual abandonment of secular principles to please Islamic threats.Taslima's story is here: taslimanasrin.com/++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++== India had to step in to stop the brutal suppression of any desire for freedom by Bangladeshi Muslims even.
Who will step in to stop this brutal suppression by Ayatollah Khomeini and Ahmaed Mohammed.
NO ONE, THAT'S WHO.
The USA is full of talk but will not do anything. It's far too weakened by the draining long campaigns in Afganistan and Iraq. Israel cannot as it is being threatened by the Pallys, aided and abetted by Iran, Syria and Egypt.
The supposedly secular and liberal countries of Egypt and Turkey could do it. But they will NOT. A Muslim county will NEVER raise arms against another. The only reason Saudi joined the USA in Gulf War 1 is that Saddam broke that Islamic rule. But Saudi only stayed till the borders of Iraq and that's why Bush 1 did not go further.
Bush2 was foolish and irresponsible in going further. How many Mulim countries have supported SIGNIFICANTLY and in real terms, the Afganistan and Iraq campaigns by USA and its western allies.
So though it breaks my heart to say it, my answer to your last question has to be
NO.
Thousands, perhaps millions will suffer because of the Islamic terror unleashed by Ayatollah Khomeini and Ahmed Mohammed.
Sorry.
