Professor Windlass became mesmerised. He got out of bed and slowly walked towards the window.

As he did so he begain to hear a very low pitched hum

The noise was coming from his own bed! His lover, Gregor, was emitting a continuous hum and floating towards the ceiling.

He opened the window to see other villagers slowly walking towards the distant light

Windlass soon realised his mistake in opening the window; Gregor sped up and floated out of the window.

In panic, he grabbed at a branch of the neighbour's huge Scots pine

He held on for dear life. The light faded shortly and the pull stopped and he dropped to the ground gasping

After about half an hour he drove to the next village but that too was lifeless completely silent
